Theatre Arts at DCA

--We are a department that has about 80 students involved on a day to day basis.
--Every year the drama department presents at least one full length play and a musical. Usually, we also incorporate a children's play, which we present to the elementary school.
--Last year, DCA drama students won 2nd place in the state festival and went on to perform at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Lexington, KY.
--This year we will again be entered in a one-act festival and will be traveling to the southeastern theatre conference with juniors and seniors planning to pursue theatre in their future.
--Our main focus is performing theatre with excellence and honoring God with our gifts in performance!
--Last year, DCA drama students were offered over $500,000 in possibly scholarship opportunities.

A Brand new Day



It is the 1st full week of school this week and we are back in full force here at DCA!
We have a fabulous new drama room and Ms. Lindsey is already working hard with students to make what she calls "the good drama" happen everyday. We had a blessing recently when the Ben Nye Makeup company sent us a gift certificate to replace some of the makeup we lost in the flood. Our parent, Kristy Elswick, sent in a request right after the flood to them to ask if they could do anything for us. They were gracious enough to accept that request and we are beginning a new year with some supplies!!! Again, God has brought about amazing changes in our department and our school through this flood. We continue to serve and praise Him ALWAYS!!!

DCA Flood hits drama department


On May 2nd, the historic flood that hit Nashville also hit DCA. We were ravaged by waters that entered the school 4 1/2 feet. Our entire drama department was housed in a portable that was on 6 feet piers...so no one thought the water would get to it. Just a few days later as Ms. Lindsey walked among the debris and mud, she cried. So much of the department was lost. The drama department was able to save pictures and a handful of supplies and books that were high enough up in the rooms. The loss was great, but even then, Ms. Lindsey said..."Thank you God for these pictures and memories. The students make this department and not stuff..." We are grateful to begin again.

Singin' in the Rain













This past spring, the drama and choir departments again teamed up and brought the classic, "Singin' in the Rain" to the DCA stage. Complete with specialized rain effects, the show was a hit! Thanks to our favorite behind the scenes man and our amazing parent team, the show was brought to life in a big way. Students Jacob Layne and Allison Owen made us truly believe Don and Kathy could fall in love while the zany Cosmo Brown (Will Miranne) devised humorous undertones throughout. Other memorable characters like the "we love to hate her" character, Lena Lamonte (Emily Hughes), her sidekick Zelda (Mallory Reaves) and the loveable RF Simpson (Dustin Gregory) made us feel like we were really on the hollywood lot! What a fun show! Hope you got to see it!

First year to travel to SETC





This year was our first year to travel to the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Lexington, KY. Our students performed their one-act and learned a lot about working in a real theatre! They took the stage like pros and spiked and struck with the best of them. All this, without having any experience with a real stage! 7 Students auditioned/interviewed for scholarships and were offered a total of over $500,000 in scholarship potentials. We are so proud of these students!
