September 19th through the 23rd Ms. Lindsey taught various makeup techniques in class. Students were able to create effects that made them more beautiful, older, fantastical or injured throughout the week.

A Brand new Day

It is the 1st full week of school this week and we are back in full force here at DCA!
We have a fabulous new drama room and Ms. Lindsey is already working hard with students to make what she calls "the good drama" happen everyday. We had a blessing recently when the Ben Nye Makeup company sent us a gift certificate to replace some of the makeup we lost in the flood. Our parent, Kristy Elswick, sent in a request right after the flood to them to ask if they could do anything for us. They were gracious enough to accept that request and we are beginning a new year with some supplies!!! Again, God has brought about amazing changes in our department and our school through this flood. We continue to serve and praise Him ALWAYS!!!

DCA Flood hits drama department

On May 2nd, the historic flood that hit Nashville also hit DCA. We were ravaged by waters that entered the school 4 1/2 feet. Our entire drama department was housed in a portable that was on 6 feet piers...so no one thought the water would get to it. Just a few days later as Ms. Lindsey walked among the debris and mud, she cried. So much of the department was lost. The drama department was able to save pictures and a handful of supplies and books that were high enough up in the rooms. The loss was great, but even then, Ms. Lindsey said..."Thank you God for these pictures and memories. The students make this department and not stuff..." We are grateful to begin again.

Singin' in the Rain

This past spring, the drama and choir departments again teamed up and brought the classic, "Singin' in the Rain" to the DCA stage. Complete with specialized rain effects, the show was a hit! Thanks to our favorite behind the scenes man and our amazing parent team, the show was brought to life in a big way. Students Jacob Layne and Allison Owen made us truly believe Don and Kathy could fall in love while the zany Cosmo Brown (Will Miranne) devised humorous undertones throughout. Other memorable characters like the "we love to hate her" character, Lena Lamonte (Emily Hughes), her sidekick Zelda (Mallory Reaves) and the loveable RF Simpson (Dustin Gregory) made us feel like we were really on the hollywood lot! What a fun show! Hope you got to see it!

First year to travel to SETC

This year was our first year to travel to the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Lexington, KY. Our students performed their one-act and learned a lot about working in a real theatre! They took the stage like pros and spiked and struck with the best of them. All this, without having any experience with a real stage! 7 Students auditioned/interviewed for scholarships and were offered a total of over $500,000 in scholarship potentials. We are so proud of these students!

Alice in Wonderland by Michele L. Vacca is a hit success!

The advanced drama students at DCA presented Alice in Wonderland today in the lecture hall. They presented to the elementary students in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. Both the student actors and the audience had a great time. They learned about how books become plays and those bring characters to life on stage!!! Tonight, the students performed to a sold out crowd of parents, friends and students who enjoyed laughing and being "small" again. The entire production was student designed and implemented. What a fun day for all!

Drama Students reenact Iwo Jima flag planting

On Veteran's day, five of the drama students dressed in fatigues and acted out the Iwo Jima memorial for the school assembly. They came out into the gym while the choir sang. They proceeded to freeze and stand frozen for 10 minutes. The drama department was excited to be included on this very special day.

Our own drama teacher, Ms. Laura Lindsey, was named News 2 educator of the week. Sylvia Castaneda came by during the dress rehearsal day for the fall play, "The Mousetrap" and video taped some of rehearsal. It will air sometime between Thanksgiving and the beginning of January!

The DCA drama department presented The Mousetrap in the HS gym. October 15 and 17, the fall production was a hit with DCA students, alumni and parents! We had our biggest fall play audience to date and everyone really enjoyed the dessert and beverages. What a fun production~ we just wish we could perform more shows...one day...when we have a fine arts building! God is good to us everyday. His blessings are new every morning! Get ready for the spring musical in April!

One Act Moves on to SETC!

The drama one act, "Flowers for Algernon," by David Rogers, moves on to the drama version of national competition, the southeastern theatre conference. Students placed 2nd in the state competition. In individual awards, Will Miranne took best actor and Cody Beyer took runner up for the acting scholarship competition! Congratulations to these amazingly talented students! To God be the glory for the gifts He so richly bestows! In our weakness....no auditorium, no rehearsal space, no place to build sets or store them...He is strong!!!! Thanks be to the Lord!

DCA Drama Students to present One Act at State Competition

On October 23rd, our most advanced drama class of juniors and seniors will present their one act, "Flowers for Algernon," by David Rogers, at the Tennessee State Theatre Festival. DCA is one of six schools that will be competing in the HS festival for the opportunity to perform at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in March. As part of getting ready for the festival, the students presented the one act to the 8th through 12th grade English classes on Wednesday. They were well received and the entire student body was very supportive!

Lauren LaFever won scholarship and goes to Anderson University

At the SETC conference last year, Lauren LaFever auditioned for scholarships and was offered 17 call backs from various colleges, universities and conservatory programs. She auditioned for a private, Christian college, Anderson University and won a $64,000 scholarship to study there. We are so proud of her! Congratulations Lauren!

A Brand New Year

Welcome to a brand new year of drama at Donelson Christian Academy. After such a wonderful year last year, I cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store for this one. We have sent alumni to study all over the country and know that they will be used in a might way. In class, we are using full tablet computers for every student and doing all kinds of online projects that enhance learning. We will be doing lots of productions including a children's production through underclassmen classes in addition to festival productions in introduction to theatre. We are also now offering a dual enrollment class in theatre and public speaking through Union University. Thank you Lord for continuing to bless our department as we seek to honor you through excellence. Be glorified in us!

Drama students created a reproduction of the flag at Iwo Jima for Veteran's Day service. The Veteran's Day service included a military fly by and various distinguished guests that have served our country over the last century. What an honor to be able to represent them in this small way.
